Uma obra de Wagner

A obra que Wagner Malta Tavares está expondo agora contém dois tipos de espaço ao mesmo tempo: um abstrato, ideal e infinito, e outro que existe, real, que é o lugar onde a obra está. Não sei se um inclui o outro, ou se há uma fusão ou justaposição dos dois espaços. Se por um lado a obra está dentro do espaço real, por outro ela envolve o lugar com sua lógica metafísica.

O circuito da obra nasce de um volume geométrico posado no chão, de onde Wagner lança três linhas/sondas em diferentes direções do espaço, como se para medi-lo. Três fios de lã cor de laranja – esticados – partem dos vértices do cubo irregular, posto ali como uma unidade de medida ou marco de direção, estendendo suas linhas ao infinito.

Por partirem de uma forma abstrata, as linhas parecem se dirigir a um espaço abstrato, mas ao tocar as paredes, tetos e janelas, atingindo os limites do mundo real, elas nos fazem perceber o lugar específico onde a obra está, ativando-o como significante. Daí os frágeis fios de lã quase desaparecem na dispersão do ambiente, mas quando retornamos ao paralelepípedo fora de prumo de onde partem as linhas, o espaço da obra é reativado em novas configurações operacionais.

Enquanto andamos pela área, já sabendo como o trabalho funciona, começamos a perceber interessantes possibilidades de divisões espaciais pelos fios de cor, como aqui-dentro / ali-fora e ali-dentro / aqui-fora. São vários os espaços da obra, uma espécie de artefato que se mantém continuamente num espaço em que ele está prestes a se articular como obra de arte

The work that Wagner Malta Tavares now exhibits contains two types of space at the same time: one abstract, ideal and infinite and the other, real, which is where his work is. I do not know if one includes the other, or if there is a fusion or a juxtaposition of spaces. If on one hand his work is within the real space, on the other it involves the place with its logical metaphysics.

The circuit of his work is born from a single geometrical volume based on the ground, from where Wagner throws three strings or probes in different directions of the space, as if he were going to measure it. Three threads of stretched orange-colored wool leave the vertex of the irregular cube , placed there as a measure unit or a milestone of directions, extending its angular lines to the infinite.

Because they come out in such an intangible way, the lines seem to drive themselves to an abstract space, but when they touch the walls, the ceiling, or windows, reaching the limits of the real world, they make us notice a specific place where his work is, activating it as a significant space. Hence the fragile wool threads almost disappear in the ambient dispersion, but when we go back to the uneven cube from where the lines come out, the circuit is reactivated in new operational configurations.

As we walk around the place, knowing how his work operates, we begin to notice the interesting possibilities of space slashed by the color threads, such as in here/ out there and in there/ out here. There are several kinds of space in his work, an artifact that remains in a space where it is about to articulate itself as a work of art
